Black obsidian is a felsic igneous rock.  The volcanic glass forms when lava cools quickly with very little crystal growth.  Raw obsidian is extremely sharp, so handling with care is a must! 

Deep black and brown in color & beautiful glossy shine when polished, the soft rock is used a lot to make carvings.
